The Mysterious Benedict Society

The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

The Mysterious Benedict Society is the story of four gifted friends that work together to take down a bad man and his team.

It starts with Reynie. He is a very gifted boy that exceeds the abilities of many kids his age. There is an ad in the paper that is addressed to gifted and talented kids. His tutor jumps right on it and takes him to the place. The ad is very brief and doesn’t say much but Reynie is intrigued! He sees many kids and their parents waiting for the test. But unlike them he has no parents. He passes the serious of tests along with 3 other people: Kate, Sticky, and Constance.

They have to go and meet Mr. Benedict. He send them on a secret mission but not before some much needed training. He tells them to go to an academy owned by an evil man, Mr. Curtain. This man has been telling people things through TV and radios, like subliminal messaging. He uses kids in this academy to do so. Mr. Benedict, his coworkers, and these kids are some of the few people who can resist these messages. Mr. Benedict suspects that he will enhance the power of the messages soon. He sends this group of smart kids to stop him.

This dynamic group finds themselves in a wild adventure at the academy. They have to achieve the seemingly impossible in only a limited amount of time. They have to learn to work together to accomplish their goal, taking down a genius!

My favorite character would have to be Kate. I love how she has the bucket with all her needed supplies in it. It actually gets them out of a lot of tough situations. She is very courageous and kind.

This is a great book! If you want to read a book that involves lying, snooping, punishment, rewards, and surprises this is a great choice. I can’t wait to read the next two books!

  1. I've enjoyed reading reviews about books that aren't in my classroom library or in our lit. circle tubs. It helps me know what other types of series are out there.
